Charley's Grilled Subs franchisee to give employee kidney
September 3, 2008
OREM, Utah — Marcus Gilbert, a Utah-area Charley's Grilled Subs franchisee, will donate a kidney Sept. 12 to his 16-year-old employee, Juan Delgado.
Delgado's battle with End Stage Renal Failure, or Chronic Kidney Disease, began three years ago. Although health problems made it difficult for Delgado to work, Marcus hired him on six months ago at his Charley's in Orem, Utah.
Delgado learned he needed a kidney transplant shortly after starting at Charley's. No one in Delgado's family was a match so Gilbert got tested, found out he was a match, and agreed to donate his kidney.
