Cava giving employees PTO to vote

Provided

September 1, 2020

In celebration of National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, (Sept. 1) Cava and Zoes Kitchen are offering free meals to poll workers with proof of badge, which is in addition to educating guests and team members about the mail-in ballot process and ensuring that all employees have the opportunity to vote in this year's general election.

Cava has been offering employees PTO to vote since 2018.

"Cava was built by first-generation Americans. I, along with our founders, have a deep appreciation for the power of the right to vote in the U.S.," CEO Brett Schulman told FastCasual during an interview. "We believe it is our company's responsibility to ensure our team members and the communities we serve have the time and resources to exercise this right.

"This will take removing as many obstacles as possible — from work obligations to the understanding of the process — and empowering our team not only to vote but to support those who make it possible by offering a free meal to all poll workers at Cava restaurants across the country this November."

Cava, which has more than 100 locations and purchased Zoes' more than 250 locations in 2018, is partnering with Vote.org and Time To Vote to drive voter readiness within its team and is also publishing guest-facing and internal information resources and reminders for key milestones, including:

  • How to register to vote and deadlines.
  • Information about the mail-in and absentee ballot process.
  • Local, state and federal elections dates.
