Captain D's opens 72nd Tennessee unit

Captain D's has opened the 72nd franchised location in its homebase state of Tennessee, this one in Cordova. The opening is part of the chain's planned expansion acceleration for the state and will be followed by three more Tennessee openings later this year in Dayton, White House and Smyrna, a press release said. 

The 2,500 square-foot restaurant at 1438 N. Germantown Parkway in Cordova has created more than 48 jobs in the community. The unit is owned and operated by Joe Springer, operating partner of Sonfish LLC. Springer brings more than 15 years of restaurant experience, specifically in the quick service segment.

Among Captain D's largest multi-unit operators, Springer and his partners currently operate restaurants in Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee; the Cordova restaurant marks the group's 16th Captain D's location.

"We opened our first Captain D's in Memphis in 2009 and are eager to extend the brand's high-quality seafood and warm service to more communities throughout Tennessee," Springer said in the release. "From the restaurant redesign to the implementation of healthier menu options, we've been impressed by the changes Captain D's has made to elevate the customer experience. The compounding success stemming from those enhancements proves why Captain D's is the leader in fast casual seafood, and we are proud to be a part of its rapid expansion in Tennessee."

Captain D's expansion in Tennessee is fueled by the chain's outstanding success in 2016, when it achieved the sixth consecutive year of same-store sales increases and the fourth successive year of record-high system-wide AUV. Agreements signed this year will result in an additional 25 new restaurants in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

To date, nearly 70 percent of all restaurants have been reimaged and another 50 locations are to be remodeled by the end of the year.
