Bruegger's systemwide sales up 6%

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Bruegger's Enterprises Inc. has reported third quarter systemwide sales were $41.5 million, compared with $39.1 million in 2006, marking a 6.1 percent increase.

Comparable-store sales grew 2.1 percent at company locations and 2.2 percent system-wide for the third quarter ended Oct. 2, 2007. This period marks 14 consecutive quarters of growth for the chain.

Bruegger's opened four franchise-operated bakeries during the third quarter, bringing the total to 262 locations in 21 states. Franchisees have development commitments for nearly 110 new bakeries over the next few years, including a 20-unit commitment in southeastern Florida.

Bruegger's expects to open 30 new bakeries this year and another 40 in 2008.
