Bruegger's hits 12th consecutive quarter of growth

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Bruegger's Enterprises Inc. today reported first quarter systemwide same-store sales increased 6.3 percent, up from $48.27 million in 2006 to$51.33 million.
 
Revenue for comparable sales grew 1.1 percent at company locations and .8 percent systemwide for the first quarter ending April 17, 2007. 
 
This period marks 12 consecutive quarters of growth for the fast casual bagel chain.
 
"2006 was a record sales year for us, and we are happy to see the momentum continue into the first quarter. We are optimistic about the second quarter when we will continue expanding into new markets," said Bruegger's chief executive James J. Greco.
 
During the quarter Bruegger's opened three bakeries, two company-owned and one franchise-operated, bringing the total to 255 bakeries in 21 states. Bruegger's expects to open 40 new bakeries this year and another 50 bakeries in 2008.
