Bruegger's expands into Toronto
March 30, 2010
Bruegger's has announced that the 292-unit bagel chain will serve its freshly baked bagels at three locations in Toronto, through a co-branding deal with mmmuffins, a 32-unit chain that offers freshly baked cookies, muffins, breads and other bakery items, along with soups and sandwiches.
Mmmuffins was acquired by Bruegger's in November 2009, when the company also acquired the restaurant holdings of Timothy's Coffees of the World Inc., based in Toronto. To celebrate the bagel leader's arrival in Toronto, Bruegger's surveyed 654 morning commuters about their breakfast bagel eating habits. Fifty-six percent of respondents said they couldn't find a good bagel in the city. "We pride ourselves on making the most authentic New York-style bagels anywhere, and are pleased to share the centuries-old, time-tested tradition with Canadians," said Jim Greco, CEO of Bruegger's Enterprises Inc., in a news release. Torontonians also declared their favorite bagel flavors are Whole Wheat (20.1 percent), Everything (19.6 percent) and Sesame (14.1 percent). Co-branded Bruegger's mmmuffins locations will continue to provide freshly baked muffins, cookies, croissants, danishes, soups, sandwiches and freshly ground coffee using the finest high quality ingredients, and no preservatives or additives.
