Billy Sims BBQ, an Oklahoma-based concept, has announced the opening of two new stores — one at 31042 Gratiot Ave. in Roseville, Michigan and the other at 1812 South Street in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
The Michigan location is the third for franchise owner-operator Jim Turner. The Chickasha location is the sixth owned and operated by franchisee Steve Allen, according to a press release.
"Michigan residents loved Billy Sims when he played for the Detroit Lions and they love his barbecue," said Jeff Jackson, co-founder and CEO of Billy Sims BBQ. "Oklahoma residents also love Billy Sims and we are excited to open another restaurant in the state."
Sims, a running back for the University of Oklahoma, won the Heisman Trophy in 1978 and was selected by the Detroit Lions as the No. 1 pick in the 1980 NFL draft. He played for the Lions for five seasons.
In 2004, Sims co-founded the franchise that bears his name. Today, Billy Sims BBQ boasts more than 40 locations and expects to have an additional 10 stores open by the end of the year.
Sims is expected to meet with fans at grand openings for the two new locations in July and August.
