Beverage group decries New York obesity tax proposal

Advertising Age: The governor of New York has included a 15 percent tax on full-calorie, sugar-sweetened soft drinks, a so-called 'obesity tax,' in a list that included other tax proposals and spending cuts as the state faced a $15 billion budget shortfall.
The American Beverage Association has reached out to the governor's office regarding the proposed tax and questioned its validity, citing data that shows obesity rates are rising even as soft-drink sales are flat.
