March 31, 2010
Beautiful Brands International has announced the signing of an agreement with Tulsa, Okla.-based businessman, Curtis Branch, to develop Rex's Chicken and FreshBerry Frozen Yogurt locations throughout Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Arkansas.
The deal represents a 550 unit agreement with 275 units for each brand.
"Without a doubt, this is the largest deal in BBI's history," David Rutkauskas, Beautiful Brands founder, president and CEO, said in a news release. "We're thrilled to work with Curtis to expand the FreshBerry footprint across seven states and revive the well-known taste of Rex's. We knew people in Oklahoma would love to see the restaurant re-launched and an iconic brand reborn in the 21st century."
With more than 10 years experience in the wireless communications industry through site acquisition, project and on-site management, Branch has committed substantial capital to aggressively develop the FreshBerry and Rex's Chicken brands. As part of the agreement, BBI will retrofit the Coney Beach restaurant in Tulsa as a Rex's Chicken.
Created by Rutkauskas and his wife, Camille, the FreshBerry franchise has grown from a single store concept in Tulsa to more than 15 FreshBerry Frozen Yogurt Cafés open around the world.
Founded in 1951, Rex's Chicken became famous for its delicious crispy, bite size chicken, fry bread and fresh sides. Beautiful Brands obtained the rights to Rex's in 2008 with the aim of reviving its popularity and introducing it to new regional markets.
