Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, which hopes to add 150 locations over the next five years, has signed a 10-unit agreement with RPC Ventures for West Houston and Galveston, Texas.

"After our introduction with the Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii leadership team, we knew right away that this was the brand for us," RPC Co-Founder Kyle Price said in a company press release.

"We love how the brand honors its Hawaiian heritage and creates a culture that differentiates itself by embodying its island roots," Heath Rushing, Price's partner, said in the release.

The brand leaders are also executives in a large hospital system in Houston and were looking to own a business together for some time. After discovering a shared interest in entrepreneurship and a love for coffee, Price and Rushing explored their options in the coffee category.

"Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii also isn't just a brand, it's an identity and the vision is to fuel the inner badass in all of us. We hope to unlock inner badasses by fueling customers with energy and kindness every single day," Rushing said.

Texas is proving to be a strong development state for the brand with a store opening next year in North Dallas and five coming to the greater Dallas market over the next three years. The senior leadership team has identified Texas as a high-growth market and is looking to expand further in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and destinations along the Texas Gulf Coastline, according to CEO Scott Snyder. Franchisees can expect a total investment range between $385,500 and $778,000.

"Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is entering a new state and we could not be more excited about the opportunities that will come from this partnership," Snyder said in the release. "Our brand growth is accelerating at a fast pace and we are excited for what the future holds in the great state of Texas. Kyle and Heath have great insights on the market and are a great fit to bring Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii to the Houston and Galveston areas."

Year-to-date development includes five store openings with three more expected before year's end, 13 locations under construction and an additional 80 units sold. The company also saw a 66% increase in average unit volume compared to last year, up 76% from 2019, which is credited to systemwide investments and enhancements.

The chain was born on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1989.
