Au Bon Pain heads into India

Boston — Au Bon Pain will add a total of 100 units over the next two years to the chain through expansion into India.

Au Bon Pain announced it has signed a master franchise agreement with Spencer's Retail Limited, the retail arm of RPG Enterprises, and a multi-format retailer operating 400 stores in 66 cities across India.

Au Bon Pain's menu in India will include a line of vegetarian sandwiches as well as other vegetarian items.

The fast-casual chain is Spencer's second international agreement in this fiscal year. The first one was in June 2008, when the organization announced its partnership with Woolworths Plc, UK for their "Chad Valley" brand of toys.
