Amsterdam Falafelshop has launched a search for the best-dressed balls in Boston, based on flavor and presentation. The "Battle of the Balls" competition invites guests to share a photo of their customized falafel bowl or sandwich along with a caption noting the toppings on Instagram using the hashtag #BattleofTheBalls, according to a company press release.
The guest who posts the tastiest, most flavorful falafel combination will win a Dutch-style bike valued at $400 and a year’s worth of free Falafel, according to the press release.
The shops will give back 5 percent of net proceeds from contest submissions to Lovin’ Spoonfuls, a non-profit organization committed to facilitating the rescue and distribution of healthy, fresh food to local community organizations.
"Since the beginning, we have been amazed by the mouth-watering falafel combinations that are being assembled in our shops," said Laurence Wintersteen, who co-owns the Kenmore Square shop with business partner Matt D’Alessio, current owner of the Somerville shop. "It is about time we reward our guests for their artistic and culinary ingenuity, which is why we are launching the 'Battle of the Balls' competition. We are looking forward to seeing which scrumptious, off-the-wall creation will be awarded top honors."
Amsterdam Falafelshop will take submissions Sept.14 through Nov. 23, and finalists will be selected and announced on Nov. 30.
The grand prize winner will be chosen by a panel of judges, which will include local chefs, food writers, restaurateurs and celebrities. Amsterdam Falafelshop will host the judging ceremony on Dec. 7. The judges will be required to taste the top five entries and choose a champion. Guests and media are welcome to attend the finale to meet the finalists and sample their falafel creations.
