Olympian opens Firehouse Subs in Alaska

August 14, 2018

Firehouse Subs has opened its first Alaska location in Fairbanks at 950 Old Steese Hwy., under the ownership of Greg and Catharine Persinger, according to a press release.

This is the first restaurant for the Persingers, who as fourth- and fifth-generation Alaskans are excited to welcome the brand to Fairbanks.

As an American curler and a member of Team USA at the 2018 World Men's Curling Championship, Greg had a memorable experience with Firehouse Subs while traveling with his team and competing for the national title at the U.S Men's Curling Nationals.

"Early in the tournament, Greg took the team to eat at Firehouse Subs and they started winning," said Catharine. "They continued eating at Firehouse Subs and it became their lucky charm — as the team ultimately went on to win the national title. When a local sub shop closed in Fairbanks, we knew we wanted to bring our community a great brand like Firehouse Subs."

The Persingers said they look forward to continuing Firehouse Subs' commitment to helping public safety organizations through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has donated more than $35 million in grants to hometown heroes in 47 states, Puerto Rico and Canada.
