The latest promotion from Freshii — which officially classifies itself as a "health casual" brand — is taking direct aim at its fast food competitors by allowing customers to exchange all their fast food gift cards for a free chef-designed Freshii menu item with protein, according to a company press release.
The promo, which starts Jan. 9, has that "make-you-wanna-watch" appeal of a playground fist fight, but no one will find fault in the second part of the promotion. Freshii will exchange the collected fast food gift cards for cash via an unnamed third-party provider in order to donate all proceeds to its charitable partner, WE Charity. It's a move that manages to be both a little sneaky and sweet at the same time.
Freshii's locations are welcoming gift cards valued at $5 or more from all fast food brands, including McDonald’s, Subway, Taco Bell, Chipotle, Jamba Juice, Menchie’s and Wendy’s. In exchange, the brand will give customers a free chef-designed bowl, burrito, wrap, soup or salad with chicken, tofu or steak. The chain claims that it's just fulfilling its mission to "make healthy eating convenient and affordable to all."
"We're saying goodbye to the grease and hello to the golden arches of the next generation," Freshii Vice President of Marketing Melissa Gallagher, said in the release. "At Freshii we live by our company mantra: Let’s eat without regret. We want our guests to live their new year's resolutions. Let;s start 2017 off on a healthii note. Let’s eat. Energize."
