With more than 700 restaurants, Revel Systems says Smoothie King's iPad-based POS deployment is the largest to date.

Smoothie King is preparing to roll out an iPad POS system at all 700 of its locations world-wide.
The new iPad POS system, powered by Revel Systems, is intended to help streamline operations systemwide.
"The implementation will give Smoothie King a cohesive overview of all stores while ensuring smooth, fast and secure transactions for its customers around the world," said John Lapeyrouse, VP of Information Technology at Smoothie King.
Management tools for franchisees have been built into the system, and the price of the system is low enough to not be a barrier to entry for most franchisees, he said.
"This will provide us with better visibility of our operation to manage costs and improve our ability to understand and deliver what our guests want," added Lapeyrouse.
Largest deployment to date
Each terminal includes an iPad, cash drawer, customer-facing kiosk, card swipe and printer. Several terminals will be installed in each Smoothie King location.
"This will be the largest iPad point of sale deployment to date and is a tipping point for the industry," said Lisa Falzone, CEO of Revel.
The rollout will begin this fall and continue through 2015.
Enhanced customer experience
In addition to increasing operational visibility, Smoothie Kings anticipates the new POS will enhance customers' experiences by speeding up transactions and improving speed of service, said Lapeyrouse.
Smoothie King anticipates a very small learning curve for staff training on the new system.
"Revel's rapid plug and play deployment capability, coupled with the fact that Smoothie King's young team members are already comfortable using iPads, mean Smoothie King franchisees can be up and running with a very small learning curve," said Lapeyrouse.
Mobile wallet payment integration
While Smoothie King's decision to move to Revel's iPad based POS system was driven primarily by a need to greater operational visibility and enhanced customer experience, the added benefit of mobile wallet payment readiness is also thrown into the deal.
Revel began working on an Apple Pay integration in August in anticipation of Apple's announcement in September, and was ready with its solution by Sept. 11. The Revel system can accept payment from Apple Pay, Google Wallet and bitcoin.
