Zoup! is adding a new offering to its rotating menu of soups that may rattle some diners – Rattlesnake Stew.
The hearty stew is made with rabbit and rattlesnake sausage, peppers, brown rice and spices. It's set to join the regular rotation of soups on Jan. 19.
"The idea was inspired by our customers' interest in new and different flavors and ingredients," said Zoup! Founder and CEO Eric Ersher in an email Q and A. "If anyone's to offer Rattlesnake Stew, it's got to be from Zoup!"
Customers' initial reactions have ranged from "Yuck!" to mild curiosity to extreme interest, says Ersher.
Despite skepticism on the part of some, "the results from those brave enough to try rattlesnake have far exceeded expectations.
It took Zoup! seven months to develop the soup, the longest development mission in the history of the company, adds Ersher.
Zoup! also added Chipotle Shrimp Bisque to its line-up this month. The bisque is a creamy tomato soup with shrimp, peppers and vegetables blended in.
Both soups will be offered at all 70 Zoup! locations nationwide.
Customers who donate $2 or more to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign at any of the Zoup! locations in the U.S. this month could score some free Rattlesnake Stew. Zoup! will offer a complimentary 8 oz. side of soup on their next visit to those who donate throughout January.
