The Kati Roll Company has opened in the heart of the East Village, 28 East Second Ave., in New York, and hopes to have 40 others by 2020. The chain, which has four locations in Manhattan and one in London, is serving its Kolkata-inspired street food but has also added Staff Rolls, a new menu item that allows employees to help with the creative process by adopting a new flavor in each city or region it opens, according to a company press release.
The 500-square-foot space will seat 18 and features an open concept design, where diners walk into the kitchen space to place their orders and watch cooks prepare every element of their rolls from scratch, according to the release.
For its latest opening, TKRC has introduced a new roll and two new lassi flavors. The Kosha Mangsho Roll features four hours of slow-cooked pulled goat meat, seasoned with hand-ground whole spices wrapped in a handmade flatbread, and finished with red onions, bird's eye chilies and a sprinkle of lime juice, according to the release.
New beverages include the Orange Blossom Lassi and a Kesar Pista, which has saffron and pistachio. The Mishti Doi Lassi is a take on one of the most popular desserts in Bengal, which is fermented sweet yogurt made with a reduction of date-palm sugar. All the lassis are made with organic yogurt, according to the release.
