Thompson Street Capital Partners, a St. Louis-based private equity firm, has acquired Bubbakoo's Burritos, a New Jersey-based franchisor of fast-casual Mexican-fusion restaurants. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Bubbakoo's Burritos was founded in 2008 by Bill Hart and Paul Altero and began franchising in 2015. The company has since grown to more than 130 locations across 15 states, primarily along the East Coast and Midwest.
"A good situation came our way, and Billy and I decided that we needed to pass the reins to a company that could take our awesome brand to the next level," Altero posted on Linkedin. " A huge thank you to all our awesome customers, we love you. A big thank you to all of our employees and amazing team."
Bob Dunn, managing partner at TSCP, said Bubbakoo's has created an "innovative and compelling brand" with strong franchisee relationships and consistent unit growth. Joe St. Geme, managing director at TSCP, added that the firm plans to support Bubbakoo's continued growth by investing in technology, brand development, infrastructure, and franchisee support systems.
Hart said the company's growth has been "grounded in our commitment to food quality, hospitality and a culture that values individuality and innovation."
Altero added that TSCP's experience in scaling founder-led businesses will help it accelerate its growth into new markets and invest in technology and infrastructure.
Sidley Austin advised TSCP on the acquisition.
