The threat of bioterrorism, increasingly frequent USDA and FDA recall action resulting from public pressure, and plant processing errors have caught many food and beverage companies unprepared for “Real-Time Product Recalls”. Unfortunately, most North American food processors still collect data critical to product recall and traceability in a labor-intensive, manual manner.
Even companies who have switched to “electronic HACCP data entry programs” are finding those systems offer little value for “Real-Time Product Recalls” because their “localized” databases are not readily accessible by key decisionmakers, and they are not electronically integrated with manufacturing, inventory, and warehouse management systems – „information highways‟ critical to electronic product recalls!
