As for most industry watchers, culminating the very best of the breed in a fast-growing segment is often a difficult task. With more than 600 fast casual concepts in the $580 billion restaurant industry, paring the list down to just 100 is not for the faint of heart.
This year’s top spot goes to Mooyah Burgers & Fries. Our choice was a close one, but our list of restaurant-industry panelists was convinced Mooyah's highly successful revitalization effort in 2009 took the chain to the head of the pack. Rounding out our top five was Genghis Grill, Beautiful Brands International, Pizza Fusion and Rubio's in our 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots, respectively.
