Au Bon Pain partners with humane sausage company

Au Bon Pain added Niman Ranch sausage to its menu and is featuring two new breakfast sandwiches.

"Our mission is to source the best tasting products," Au Bon Pain Executive Chef Stefano Cordova said in a press release. "We decided the sausage patty made from humanely and sustainably raised Niman Ranch pork was the best option for our breakfast menu. The sausage also has no antibiotics ever, no added hormones and no artificial ingredients; it not only tastes great but you can feel good about what you are eating."

Niman Ranch was founded 40 years ago on the belief that raising livestock according to traditional agriculture practices was better for the land, the animals and the farmers; Niman Ranch developed strict protocols that consistently deliver the finest tasting pork, said Jeff Tripician, Niman Ranch executive vice president. All hogs must be raised outdoors or in deeply bedded pens, where they are able to express their natural instinctive behaviors, like rooting and roaming. Niman Ranch hogs are raised by small U.S. family farmers who are paid a premium to raise hogs the traditional humane way.
