The Top 100 Movers & Shakers

Feb. 21, 2010 | by Valerie Killifer
Publisher Paul Barron calls the 2009 Top 100 Movers & Shakers the "fifth act" of fast casual.
Ranking the segment's top 100 brands for the fifth time, we attempted to refine the fast casual concept as one that offers gourmet-level food or drink and an interior that wows the guest at a price that is driven by value.
The concepts included here have accomplished just that.
Our No.1, Mooyah Burger & Fries, launched a highly successful revitalization effort in 2009 and worked hard to truly provide what president Alan Hixon calls "magic within the four walls."
Genghis Grill, in the No. 2 spot, opened 14 units last year — a 70-percent rate of growth for the Mongolian stir-fry concept.
Beautiful Brands International, which came in third, continues to make smart moves in building its portfolio. Its frozen yogurt concept FreshBerry also made huge gains in 2009.
In this video, Barron discusses the fifth act of fast casual and the brand leaders who continue to revolutionize the segment. Click here to download the 2009 Top 100 Movers & Shakers.
