Oregon proposes menu labeling legislation

Statesman Journal (Ore.): Oregon lawmakers have introduced a House bill that would require chain restaurants to post the calorie content of regular items on menus or menu boards, similar to a requirement that recently took effect in Multnomah County, Ore. More than a dozen other states are considering menu-labeling legislation.

In addition to several states proposing their own legislation, the U.S. Congress and Senate have reintroduced the LEAN Act. The Senate version would require restaurants and grocery stores that serve prepared foods at 20 or more locations to provide consumers calorie information for each menu item either on a menu, menu board or in one of the approved alternative ways, such as a menu insert or a sign next to the menu board.
