COSTA MESA, Calif. — EPL Intermediate Inc., parent company of El Pollo Loco Inc., has reported results for its year ended Dec. 31.
Same-store sales for the system (including both company and franchise locations) and company-operated stores both increased 0.2 percent in 2008.
El Pollo Loco reported operating revenue for the year of $298.9 million, a 7.1 percent increase over operating revenues of $279 million reported for the same period last year. Operating revenue includes sales from company-owned stores and revenue earned from franchise activities.
As a result of the aggregate of $42.1 million in goodwill and domestic trademarks impairment charges and a $10.7 million litigation settlement expense in 2008, the company had a net loss for the year of $39.5 million, compared to a net loss of $4.0 million for the year ended Dec. 31, 2007.
