Company veteran named Quiznos new president
An 11-year company veteran has been named as Quiznos president.

Greg MacDonald, who has been with the brand since 1998, will assume his new role in July. Throughout his tenure with the company he has held senior-level positions in both marketing and development before becoming president of Quiznos Canada in 2005.

"Greg brings unparalleled brand knowledge to this new role, and we are pleased to have his expertise benefiting franchisees system-wide," said Rick Schaden, Quiznos chairman and CEO. "He truly understands the brand at all levels, including marketing, operations and development."

Under MacDonald's leadership, chain-wide sales in Canada increased by more than 20 percent in four years and franchise owner profitability among Canadian stores more than doubled according to the company. Further, the number of restaurants in Canada grew by more than 20 percent during that time.

Since the latter part of 2008, MacDonald has been heavily involved with the re-branding of its U.S. business, with the introduction of a "New Lower Prices Everyday" menu and the March launch of Quiznos' $4 Toasty Torpedoes.

"Moving forward, we will continue with our promise of offering the best tasting subs, salads and soups in the marketplace at a price that everyone in America can afford. By staying true to our core brand attributes and becoming more accessible to the average consumer, we can create the best run our franchise owners and business partners have ever seen," MacDonald said.

Over the last five years, Quiznos has had its share of trials and tribulations, including a series of franchisee lawsuits.

Most recently, Canada's Ontario Divisional Court approved in May certification for a Canada-wide class action lawsuit brought by Quiznos franchisees against the company and its designated supplier, Gordon Food Services. The lawsuit alleges that Quiznos violated its franchise agreements and the federal Competition Act by acting together with Gordon Food to artificially inflate prices paid by Quiznos operators for supplies.

Quiznos has approximately 427 franchises in Canada.
