Father-and-son team Mike and Stephan Monteleone have acquired the rights to use the family recipes of Barone's Famous Italian Restaurant of Sherman Oaks, Calif., as part of their plan to open the fast casual Barone's - The Pizzeria Express.
 
The restaurant is slated to open Oct. 1. Stephan Monteleone will manage and lead the Pizzeria Express team. The restaurant's menu wil offer pizza, pasta, salads, subs and desserts.
 
Barone's, which opened in 1945, was the first restaurant in southern California to offer pizza.
