Chipotle Mexican Grill has won the Libby Award for Best Fast-Food Chain from peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. The fourth annual Libby Awards honors animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com helped the group determine the winners by voting for their favorites in each category.
The restaurant also recently introduced a vegan "Garden Blend" burrito, which features vegan chicken, grains, and marinated vegetables, available at select locations in New York City and Washington, D.C.
"We're glad to know that Chipotle Mexican Grill offers healthy and humane alternatives for vegans, and we hope that its vegan Garden Blend burrito becomes a permanent menu item at every Chipotle location," peta2 director Dan Shannon said in a news release.
Chipotle won out over Souplantation & Sweet Tomatoes and last year's Libby winner, Pei Wei Asian Diner.
Thirty-eight Libby Awards were given out this year, recognizing everything from the most animal-friendly athlete and record label to the most animal-friendly band and clothing company. Winners will receive plaques and will be featured on peta2.com.
