Lime Fresh Mexican Grill becomes Certified Humane

Lime Fresh Mexican Grill has announced its ground beef has been certified humane by Humane Farm Animal Care. The national non-profit organization was created to improve the lives of farm animals by certifying their humane treatment. Lime is the first and only Florida restaurant to earn this certification.
"Being certified humane is particularly important to us," said Lime Fresh Mexican Grill CEO and founder John Kunkel. "We work everyday to capitalize on our distinctive flavors, fresh ingredients and customer service; but always to do this in the most respectful and dignified way possible."
The extensive and ongoing certification process, which will be repeated annually at each Lime location, includes the auditing and inspection of all procedures, facilities, receipts and sales records. Lime also is currently taking steps to certify its other meats. The brand has five South Florida locations and five more slated to open this year.
Lime's announcement also coincides with the release of the new, biographical HBO Film, "Temple Grandin." The film traces the life of the best-selling author, pioneering animal scientist and inspirational spokesperson living with autism. Grandin revolutionized the cattle industry by designing sweeping curved corrals, intended to reduce stress in the animals, which are now used in approximately more than 70 percent of US slaughterhouses.
"As far as we're concerned, the humane treatment of animals is universally relevant," Kunkel said.
