Thousands of California Tortilla customers chose to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by visiting the popular chain in person and through catering orders. To ensure a large Cinco de Mayo turnout, California Tortilla also sent out a secret password that enabled customers to receive free nachos on a future visit.
During the day, California Tortilla's sales were up 32 percent over Cinco de Mayo last year with catering accounting for 20 percent of the day's sales. The company also marked its largest sales day on record.
