Palm Beach, Fla.'s Tim Gannon and his Outback Steakhouse co-founder Bob Basham have opened their first PDQ unit, with plans to open four more this year and up to 50 over the next five years in South Florida, according to MENAFM.com. Although Basham and Nick Reader, former chief financial officer of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, opened the first PDQ in Tampa in 2011, the 3,800-square-foot restaurant in Oakland Park, Fla., that opened Feb. 17, is Gannon's first unit.
PDQ serves chicken tenders, sandwiches, salads and hand-cut fries. Its name is an acronym for "People Dedicated to Quality" and "Pretty Darn Quick."
"People want fresh food fast, so if you call it by either name it works," Gannon said in the story. "I think we have a winning recipe. We're averaging 1,000 customers a day, with lines out the door."
