Actor Patrick Dempsey, AKA Dr. McDreamy, announced Thursday via twitter and a TV interview that his company is buying Tully's Coffee.
The 47-unit chain based in Seattle filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection a few months ago and went up for auction Thursday. Starbucks, along with several other companies and Dempsey's company, Global Baristas LLC, made bids for the chain, but the actor said during an interview on Thursday KOMO-TV that he won. Although a bankruptcy judge has final say on Jan. 11., Dempsey taunted Starbucks Thursday when he tweeted, "We met the green monster, looked her in the eye, and...SHE BLINKED! We got it! Thank you Seattle."
Global Baristas will pay $9,150,000 for Tully's, according to the Huffington Post.
"I'm thrilled that we won and I'm even more excited about saving Tully's Coffee and its hundreds of jobs," Dempsey said. "Tully's is a great company with committed employees, and with its base in Seattle, one of the world's greatest cities, I'm confident we will be able to successfully build the brand and help grow the economy."
