A Chipotle Mexican Grill employee filed a class-action complaint Thursday against the chain alleging that it failed to pay overtime to hundreds of employees.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the suit, filed in federal court in New York by Plaintiff Maxcimo Scott, accuses the chain of misclassifying its "apprentices" as managerial, salaried employees who don't qualify for overtime pay. It contends that apprentices earn salaries of $40,000 but often work more than 40 hours a week performing the duties of hourly workers, including cooking and filling orders.

Scott, a general manager of a Chipotle in New York, said he sometimes worked up to 55 hours a week as an apprentice. The lawsuit seeks back pay and damages.
