California Tortilla has officially introduced its 2012 Presidential Burrito Bowls, inspired by President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
For the fifth consecutive election cycle, the chain will offer presidential-themed products. They are available in stores beginning today and include:
Obama’s Chicken Teriyaki Luau Bowl: Mexican rice, grilled chicken,Teriyaki sauce, stir-fry vegetables, grilled pineapple spears, garnished with chopped green onions and served in a bowl.
Romney’s Mexican Mitt-Loaf Bowl: Grilled Mexican meatloaf, fresh mashed potatoes, sautéed vegetables, a sweet and savory sauce, corn, and salsa garnished with chopped green onions and served in a bowl.
Both items come with a special toothpick featuring the candidate’s face and each cost $7.29 plus tax and can be upgraded to a combo with a drink and chips and queso or salsa.
“While Americans get to vote every four years in the ballot box, we also give them the ability to vote with their taste buds,” said Stacey Kane, California Tortilla's vice president of Marketing. “Truthfully, the stomachs never lie, as our burrito system has accurately elected local, state and national elections in the past, including the very close 2008 Presidential race.”
California Tortilla COO and head chef Keith Goldman developed the bowls after careful research of the candidates’ backgrounds and food preferences.
The “voting” will culminate at a special event Nov. 3, where California Tortilla will use the burrito bowl results to predict the presidential election before the polls even open.
In an additional twist this year, the chain allowed their loyal Facebook and Twitter fans, along with Taco Talk e-newsletter subscribers, to name the Presidential Burrito Bowls.
