US Foods, one of the country’s leading foodservice distributors, has announced the purchase of Sparta Imports Inc., of Columbia, S.C.
“US Foods is pleased to welcome Sparta Imports, which is recognized throughout the region as one of the leading sources of authentic, high-quality Greek and Mediterranean specialties,” said Durwood Owens, US Foods Columbia Division president. ”Sparta’s expertise and product offerings will significantly increase the variety of specialty products available to US Foods customers.”
Owens added that Sparta’s customers will benefit from access to the full range of food and foodservice products offered by US Foods.
Members of Sparta’s sales and procurement team will join US Foods. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
With more than $20 billion in annual revenue, US Foods is the 10th largest private company in America. The company employs approximately 25,000 people in more than 60 locations nationwide, and provides food and related products to more than 250,000 customers, including independent and multi-unit restaurants, healthcare and hospitality entities, government and educational institutions.
