Vendor Safe Technologies and FastCasual.com will present a webinar May 3 addressing changes to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and its impact on restaurant operations. The changes are being touted as PCI DSS 2.0. The webinar will be held May 3 at 2 p.m.
The webinar will cover the common PCI pitfalls and misconceptions, and how restaurant operators can avoid them. More significantly, it will address how recent changes to PCI standards will impact restaurant operations.
Speakers include Bradley Cyprus, a senior security architect and co-founder of Vendor Safe Technologies. Cyprus has more than 20 years experience in the security industry and manages the development of in-house solutions to validate compliance. He will give a summary of the changes to the PCI standards and will review the new timeline in between updates. Additionally, he will provide additional guidance for operators moving forward in regard to PCI management.
He will be joined by Brenda Parker, director of IT for Dine Equity with exclusive responsibilities for the IHOP brand. Parker will address real-world issues in relation to data security and restaurant operations.
The PCI DSS was created in 2004 to establish data security measures for organizations and retailers that hold, process or exchange cardholder information from any of the major card brands.
While great strides have been made to protect consumer cardholder data, 23 percent of the hospitality industry experienced a data breach in 2009, with restaurants and hotels accounting for the majority of cases.
