Editor's note: This is the second story in an eight-part series highlighting the 2006 NRA Show.

Whether you're looking for a point-of-sale (POS) system to replace the old cash register or you need information on a newer POS model, operators will have access to the industry's top providers at the National Restaurant Association's Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show May 20-23.

There will be more than 50 POS software and system providers at the show. According to the NRA Web site, many will offer rebates for POS systems purchased on site. But the key for operators will be taking advantage of all the expert advice on the showroom floor.

Gina Pearce of ParTech, a leading restaurant POS supplier, said operators should consider hardware design, services and return on investment when purchasing a POS system. ParTech will feature its newest hardware, the ViGo, at the show. Other popular POS system brands that will be there include MICROS, Aloha, Radiant, Siva and POS Works.

Louise Casamento, vice president of marketing for MICROS, said the NRA Show typically generates 1,000 sales leads for the major POS company. This year, MICROS will be highlighting its RES 4.0, which Casamento said offers increased security and improves the flow of data throughout a restaurant operation. The company will be doing RES 4.0 demonstrations at the show.

"No matter what attendees are looking for, they will find it on the exhibit floor," said Mary Pat Heftman, NRA senior vice president of convention. "Attendees interested in the latest technology innovations — from integrated system applications to loss prevention systems to video surveillance systems —should not miss the Technology Pavilion, located on Level three of the North Hall, where exhibiting companies will be ready to give hands-on demonstrations of their products."
