ATLANTA — Raving Brands plans to acquire an interest in Atlanta icon Flying Biscuit, adding to its portfolio that includes Moe's Southwest Grill, Doc Green's Gourmet Salads and Shane's Rib Shack. According to a news release, Flying Biscuit, whose famous biscuits and unique menu have attracted a dedicated local following, is a unique opportunity for Raving Brands, representing its first foray into the breakfast segment and day parts besides lunch and dinner.
"Flying Biscuit is a great addition to the Raving Brands portfolio for two reasons," said Steve LaMastra, Raving Brands president. "First, it is a best-in-class restaurant, so it fits well with our philosophy of developing and growing best-in-class brands. Secondly, by adding a breakfast concept, we are expanding the hours and day parts that our brands will be available to customers."
Flying Biscuit founder Delia Champion is expected to play an active role in the development of the Flying Biscuit franchise system and will be instrumental in the design of new restaurants and the training of franchisees.
"The partnership with Raving Brands is a natural one because our cultures and roots are so similar. Raving Brands started here in Atlanta and that means a lot to me," said Champion. "More than that, I have been positioning Flying Biscuit for expansion for more than a year. This partnership allows us to extend greater opportunities to our employees, and to benefit from the buying economies of a large company to keep our prices competitive."
Flying Biscuit opened its original location in Atlanta's Candler Park neighborhood in 1993, with a second store several years later in Midtown Atlanta.
