Sept. comps rise 5.9% at Panera Bread

ST. LOUIS — Panera Bread Co. reported system-wide comparable bakery-cafe sales increased 5.9 percent for the four weeks ended Sept. 26, 2006. According to a news release, comps at company-owned units rose 2.5 percent, while sales at franchised units rose 6.2 percent.

For the quarter ended Sept. 26, comps at company units were up 4.8 percent, while franchise units were up 4.9 percent. Revenue for the quarter rose 30 percent to $205 million versus $158 million in the comparable period in 2005. Bakery-cafe sales accounted for $165 million of consolidated revenues, while franchise royalties and fees and fresh dough sales to franchisees accounted for $40 million of consolidated revenues for the third quarter of 2006.
