Sign On San Diego: The estimated $26 billion in tips left in counter jars and on tables across the country every year has become the focus of a debate over who is entitled to share in the money.
 
In a potentially significant San Diego court case, giant coffee retailer Starbucks Corp. is being sued for distributing employee tips to shift supervisors – workers who are not technically managers but have some management responsibilities. State law precludes managers from taking customer tips.
