SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Bad Ass Coffee Company, a fast-casual coffeehouse, is sending troops overseas bags of coffee.
According to a news release, the effort is part of the chain's Buy a Cup O' Joe for a Soldier Campaign.
Since the country has been at war, this has been a routine initiative. Bad Ass Coffee has donated thousands of bags of American-grown coffee (grown in Hawaii) to soldiers overseas for years and the company said it has received a wonderful response from soldiers and their families.
The unique program even received a feature in The New York Times. In the article, Sgt. Donald Casteel said, "Why am I so excited about coffee? It's not just about the flavor or staying alert, it's a connection to home."
"We decided to go directly to the soldiers with the help of corporate and private donors," said Dan Ronnow, vice president of distribution and procurement for Bad Ass Coffee. "Sending the troops something from home and picking up the shipping cost is the company's way of making this holiday season a warmer one for our soldiers."
