• Pizza wins Super Bowl

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — A State of Super Bowl Takeout Survey reveals the majority of people will order takeout from pizza eateries, followed by fast casual restaurants, during the big game.

The survey, released by Jacent Technologies, also highlights that the majority of people will demand shorter wait times when placing orders by phone.

The second annual survey, based on input from 1,000 respondents, resulted in a few key findings. In 2006, 51 percent of respondents said they would wait no longer than 2 minutes. In 2007, that number has grown to 62 percent.

"Super Bowl Sunday will be the biggest single day of the year for business at pizza restaurants, and a major one for the restaurant takeout industry in general," said Trevor Stout, president and chief executive officer of Jacent Technologies. "With our second annual Super Bowl Takeout Survey we've seen a significant increase in consumer expectations as well as a steady comfort level with consumer ordering technologies, which can help restaurants better handle peak ordering traffic and ensure wait-times are kept to a minimum."

Additional key findings include:
  • 62 percent of respondents are not willing to wait on hold for over two minutes; 28 percent of respondents are willing to wait for 3-5 minutes; and only 10 percent of respondents will wait for 6-10 minutes.
  • 60 percent of respondents were most likely to order pizza during the Super Bowl; 33 percent plan to order from local restaurants that offer takeout service; and, 7 percent plan to order from other venues or pick up fast food.
  • 57 percent, order for 3-6 people during the Super Bowl, while 18 percent order for 7-12 people, and 5 percent expect to order for 13 or more.
  • 50 percent of respondents would opt to use an automated ordering system instead of waiting on hold; while an additional 33 percent will consider using an automated system to help shorten their wait time.
