ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Panera Bread Co. announced that sales at the company's bakery-cafes open at least 18 months increased 0.8 percent for the four-week period ended Jan. 23. Comparable-store sales at company-owned restaurants increased 0.7 percent for the period, while comps at franchised restaurants increased 0.9 percent.

The company plans to report earnings for the 2006 fourth quarter Feb. 8.
