CHICAGO — Technomic Information Services has announced the launch of its "2007 Technomic Top 100 Canadian Chains Restaurant Report."
The report shows that while overlaps and similarities with the U.S. chain-restaurant market are evident, Canadian chains and their customers display numerous qualities unique to Canada.
Several of the findings documented in the report include:

Among the Top 200 Canadian restaurant chains, limited-service concepts represented 72.6 percent of sales and 86.4 percent of units in 2006. -
The largest Canadian chain is Tim Hortons, which specializes in donuts, fresh coffee, baked goods and homestyle lunches. - The fast-casual subsegment is negligible in Canada even though these types of restaurants, led by Panera Bread, comprise almost a quarter of the top 200 U.S. limited-service chains.
