ATLANTA — Planet Smoothie has announce its "New Year! New Look! New You!" campaign. The promotion kicks off this month and includes wellness and weight-loss offerings and an eco-aware initiative with a call to action for planet-conscious consumers.

Planet Smoothie's Re-Use It or Lose It Contest is designed to encourage inventors to develop an eco-friendly solution to polystyrene, currently the only cup material in the marketplace that maintains a smoothie's frozen integrity.

Continuing with its movement toward green education and solutions, Planet Smoothie is asking consumers, inventors, academics and the like to develop a solution to either "re-use it or lose it" — "it" is polystyrene.

Planet Smoothie will reward the inventor of the best solution $5,000 and one free smoothie a week for a year. To spread the word, Planet Smoothie will post on social media sites such as YouTube, Facebook and coolpeoplecare.org, academic sites, entrepreneur sites and job sites.  Interested individuals can submit their proven solution between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2008, and the best solution will be selected by Dec. 31, 2008.

Wellness and weight loss

Under its "New Year! New Look! New You!" campaign, Planet Smoothie will highlight its Wellness and Weight Loss lifestyle category throughout January and February, including acai, a well-touted "super fruit" harvested in the rainforests and loaded with antioxidants, and Planet Smoothie Blasts.

Consumers have the option to add need-specific nutrients to any smoothie with Planet Smoothie Blasts, blends of vitamins and supplements. Eight Blast varieties are available, and each targets a unique focus, including the Immune Blast (Echinacea and vitamin C); the Anti-Oxidant Blast (vitamins A, C and E, citrus biofavonoids, zinc and selenium); and the Fat Burner Blast (Chromium picolinate, L-carnitine, lecithin and mustard seed).
