Multnomah County, Ore., approves menu labeling

The Oregonian: Multnomah County, Ore., commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to require chain restaurants and coffee shops with 15 or more locations nationwide to include calorie counts on menus, menu boards, drive-thru order boards and food tags at buffets and self-service stations, starting March 12.

Oregon state Rep. Tina Kotek plans to introduce legislation that would require restaurant menu labeling statewide.

Multnomah County joins New York City, King County, Wash., and California in municipalities that now require menu labeling.

Other states and cities that are proposing or considering menu labeling laws include Indiana, South Carolina, Florida, Minnesota, New York, Massachusetts, Nashville, Tenn., and Minneapolis-St. Paul.
